Events and Networking
Overall there are not that many options for students and independent game developers when it comes to showcasing their work.
IndieCon seems like a promising choice for meeting other game developers, but it is in November, almost a year from now.
Other games Expositions in the UK are geared towards the players of the games, and not the developers.
Elly and I have discussed how it could be an option for us to attend one of these events, such as Insomnia54, where you can bring your PC to join in with LAN video games, but we would use it as an opportunity to present our game to gamers who are there. We agreed that if we had an Oculus Rift or two to demo the game, then people would definitely gather round to try it out, as Rifts are like magnets at game conventions at the moment. Everyone wants to try them out.
London MCM Comic Con would also be a good way to expose our game to the public. It is not a game convention per se, but it is one of the most attended conventions in the UK so having a stall would definitely garner some support for our game.

Paul's Game
My parents' friend Paul is creating a game in Unity, it is based on Asteroids, and is a 2.5D top-down space shooter, which incorporates planets and gravity systems. So far he has created the game using stock assets.
I have been asked if I can help create the real assets and artwork for the game. This will involve creating modular spaceships, backgrounds, planets, and extra assets to fill space.

Spaceship for Paul
These are some shots of the game in action, where Paul has replaced the placeholder ship with my design.
Everything needs re-designing, the UI, icons, backdrop and planets.
Ship Redesign
Inspiration
A Steampunk style was decided on, and the icon sets will match this, along with the planets and UI overlay.
